Bean Bag Chairs for Kids with Disabilities
Posted on December 6, 2012
I got a call a couple days ago from a very nice lady. She was inquiring about refilling the bean bag chair that she got for her son. Normally, this is a pretty straight-forward conversation: how many bean bags do you need to refill, what size are they, what type of filling, etc.. But, this time, she mentioned that her son is in a wheel chair. I was happy to hear how our bean bag chair has helped him in more ways that I knew it could. Sure, I know kids can nest in them and feel safe. But I didn't know that our bean bag chair can help build core muscles and mobility! Here's what Amy, the nice Mom, said about how her handicapped son uses his chair:
"Thank you for a great beanbag chair! We have had our beanbag for about a year and we use it daily. We have used it to give my son a gentle place to rest instead of his wheelchair, we have used it when he had to have bilateral casts on both his legs, and our daughter gets use out of it too. We love that you can wash the cover in the event that he spits up or his tube feed has issues. We have also found it to build up his core muscles as he reaches more and more for things. He feels the freedom to move and even his ability to rotate has increased. We have also thoroughly enjoyed having something in our home that is for him but doesn't look bad. It fits in with all the other things a typical kid would have. It was a costly item but has lasted for us! So worth it! Thank you!" -Amy C.
To Amy, and all parents out there creating a great environment for their children and families, we applaud you! Keep up the good, albeit sometimes super tough, work!
Does your child or other family member use our bean bags to help with everyday life? We would love to hear from you!
Yours truly, Jade
